Oboe Reed Making Kit

The kit has all the essentials for reed making. As a beginner, the handbook is quite useful. I think I may use nylon thread for future binding however, since I had a few problems with sealing when using the thread provided in the kit. Otherwise, I like this kit and I am very excited to make my own reeds.

Not a complete kit

The products included are fairly good quality, but the kit doesn't come with everything you need to make reeds! Lots of tools have to be bought separately, as do razor blades, craft knife, clear nail varnish. the list goes on. Also, the £20 book is very overpriced for what it is. It is not clear, and misses out lots of steps, and it does not look very professional for the money.

Dear Cheryl, the oboe reed making kit we sell includes everything required to start making reeds as soon as the kit arrives. Some oboists may choose to use other tools as well however this all comes down to personal preference. The book covers all of the steps that must be carried out however different oboists have different opinions of what steps to carry out and like the tools it comes down to personal preference. As to the quality of the print, I would agree that the quality isn't amazing however it serves its purpose. Due to not many of them being made, unlike other commercial books, if it was printed to a higher standard it would cost considerably more; a lot of oboe reed making books are much, much more expensive than this book. Perfect starter kit for reed making

The kit came as described but with the welcome addition of a plastic wallet to keep it in. I have not used it as it is a present but it seems like a perfect starter kit. The description on the website didn't include the ball of thread that was shown on the picture so I was a little worried that it was not included but it was.
